Wilhelminasluis – Zaanstad
Urban design plan and visual quality plan for the lock complex of Zaandam.
The Province of North Holland and the Zaanstad municipality have commissioned the upgrading of the Wilhelminasluis, which involves widening the lock’s entrance and exit openings and renewing the bridges on both sides. This initiative offers an excellent opportunity for a quality boost that will improve the integration of the lock complex into the city. Key elements in this process include: a good public space, restoring a number of historic features and a robust, carefully designed detailing of the new lock and its bridges.
