The Deventer railway station area is being upgraded to meet the requirements of a transport hub. Key objectives include: optimum accessibility, a good spatial connection with the city centre and the enhancement of business establishment opportunities in the vicinity.
The area is one of a kind in the Netherlands due to the location of the station building and the tracks in a 19th century park on the site of the former fortifications. The park, the Singel, the Buitengracht and the green side slopes constitute a splendid ensemble of scenic beauty.
Reinstating the station as a fully-fledged part of this ensemble – just like in the past – was of central importance when developing two models for the station’s surroundings. A well-defined orientation and a clear organisation of the logistics and the public space will ensure optimum access to the station and the city centre.
